TEELING SMALL BATCH — STORY & ORIGIN
The family that brought distilling back to Dublin.
Walter Teeling ran a craft distillery on Dublin's Marrowbone Lane as far back as 1782, in the Liberties — the crowded district that was once the whiskey-making heart of the city. By 1976 the last of the old Dublin distilleries had gone dark, and for nearly forty years the capital of Irish whiskey made none at all.
In 2015 brothers Jack and Stephen Teeling opened the Teeling Distillery in Newmarket Square — the first new distillery in Dublin in over 125 years. Small Batch is its flagship: a high-malt blend, first laid down from family-sourced stock, wearing a phoenix on the label for the revival it announced.
Bourbon-barrel-matured grain and malt whiskey is married in ex-Flor de Caña rum casks from Nicaragua, then bottled at 46% without chill-filtration — presentation choices almost no entry-level Irish blend makes.
