A tribute to lost Dublin whiskey.
Powers was once among the biggest-selling whiskeys in the world, distilled at the John's Lane distillery in Dublin until it closed in 1971 — ending, for a time, whiskey production in Ireland's capital. The John's Lane Release, launched in 2011, is a deliberate tribute to that heritage and the heavier pot-still style Powers was built on.
Its release was a genuine watershed. Before 2011, the single pot still world was essentially Redbreast and Green Spot; John's Lane expanded what the category could be. The releases that followed — Yellow Spot, Redbreast 21, Barry Crockett Legacy — arguably trace back to the door it opened.
Produced at Midleton from malted and unmalted barley and triple-distilled, it's matured at least 12 years primarily in ex-bourbon casks with a smaller Oloroso sherry component — the inverse of Redbreast's sherry-forward recipe. That bourbon-led build, plus 46% and non-chill filtration, gives it a sweeter, spicier, more polished character.
