Three More Years in the Dark.

The flagship recipe aged deeper — 46%, non-chill-filtered, darker fruit — for about a hundred dollars.

Redbreast's mid-range statement: malted and unmalted barley, triple-distilled at Midleton, drawn from first-fill and refill bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. Bottled at 46% without chill-filtration — darker fruit, cocoa and espresso over the signature creamy pot-still texture.

THE DECISION

The richer Redbreast step-up for sherry-fruit lovers.

More age brings darker fruit, oilier texture, and extra spice. It is a polished upgrade from the 12, though the 12 Cask Strength still delivers more punch for less money.

I Origin

REDBREAST 15 — STORY & ORIGIN

Born as a birthday bottle.

Redbreast 15 began life in 2005 as a special bottling for the anniversary of Paris merchant La Maison du Whisky — an older, higher-strength Redbreast that was never meant to be permanent.

Demand kept it alive: in 2010 Irish Distillers promoted it to the permanent range. It's drawn from first-fill and refill ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry butts at Midleton, and bottled at 46% without chill-filtration.

Fifteen years splits the difference between the benchmark 12 and the majestic 21 — darker fruit, cocoa and rancio depth, still recognisably the same pot-still spine.

The quiet sweet spot.

Everything the 12 promises, delivered with more depth — darker fruit, espresso and leather at an honest 46% with no chill-filtration. It lives in the shadow of the Cask Strength's awards, but as a complete, composed pour it's the range's quiet sweet spot.

REDBREAST 15 · FAQ

Questions, answered.

Six things drinkers most often ask us about Redbreast 15 at the bar.

ANSWERED BY NIALL CONNOLLY · THE ATLANTIC SEAT

i. Is Redbreast 15 worth it?

For drinkers who already love the 12, yes — you're paying roughly $30–$40 more for three extra years, 46% strength and no chill-filtration. If value is the priority, the 12 Cask Strength delivers more intensity for similar money.

ii. Redbreast 15 vs Redbreast 12 — what's the difference?

Three more years, higher strength and natural presentation. The 15 is bottled at 46% non-chill-filtered with darker fruit, cocoa and espresso; the 12 is 40%, chill-filtered, lighter and about $35 cheaper.

iii. Is Redbreast 15 non-chill-filtered?

Yes — like the Cask Strength, the 15 is bottled without chill-filtration at 46%, so it keeps the oily pot-still texture. Expect a slight haze with cold water; that's the fats, not a flaw.

iv. What casks are used for Redbreast 15?

A marriage of first-fill and refill American ex-bourbon barrels and Spanish Oloroso sherry butts, matured at least fifteen years at Midleton in County Cork.

v. What does Redbreast 15 taste like?

Darker than the 12: fig, raisin and baked apple on the nose; dark cherry, espresso, chocolate and leather on an oily palate; a long, gently drying oak-and-spice finish.

vi. How should I drink it?

Neat at room temperature in a tulip glass, with water added by the teaspoon. Skip ice — cold flattens the non-chill-filtered texture you're paying for.
