Midleton Very Rare launched in 1984, created by master distiller Barry Crockett as Irish whiskey's first prestige, vintage-dated release — a bold statement at a moment when the whole category was at its lowest ebb. Each spring since, the current release carries the year on its label, and no two editions are ever quite the same.
Master distiller Kevin O'Gorman hand-selects a small parcel of casks from the maturing stock at Midleton, Co. Cork, marrying single pot still and single grain whiskeys — some aged well over two decades — exclusively in ex-bourbon American oak. Bottled at an unhurried 40%, it is built for polish and balance rather than power. The 2026 edition is the 43rd in the line.
