Knob Creek 18 Year Old Bourbon
Eighteen Years of Beam, Maximum Char.
Beam's deepest age statement until 2025 — caramelized oak, brown sugar and leather at a stately 100 proof.
A limited release built as a tribute to Booker Noe, who created Knob Creek in 1992 to bring back pre-Prohibition-weight bourbon. Eighteen years in maximum-char 'alligator' oak, bottled at 100 proof: caramelized wood, brown sugar, tobacco and leather — Beam's oldest-ever bourbon until the 21 Year superseded it in late 2025.

I Origin
KNOB CREEK 18 — STORY & ORIGIN
Booker's long game, bottled.
Knob Creek was Booker Noe's 1992 answer to the light-whiskey decades — a return to big, pre-Prohibition-style bourbon. The 18 Year arrived in 2022 for the brand's 30th anniversary as a tribute to Booker, and at the time it was the oldest whiskey James B. Beam Distilling had ever released.
Eighteen Kentucky summers in maximum-char 'alligator' new oak is a dangerous game — most barrels would collapse into tannin. The batches that survive are chosen for balance and cut to Knob Creek's signature 100 proof rather than chasing hazmat numbers.
Three releases exist — 2022, 2023 and 2024 (batch KC003). There was no 2025 or 2026 release: Beam moved the crown to a new Knob Creek 21 Year in late 2025, leaving the 18's future an open question.

II On the Palate
KNOB CREEK 18 TASTING NOTES — NOSE · PALATE · FINISH
Old oak, still standing.
Caramelized oak, brown sugar and vanilla on the nose; toffee, peanut, tobacco and baking spice on the palate; a long, dry finish of char, leather and pepper. Remarkably composed for 18 years in alligator char — oak-forward, never oak-flattened.

EDITORIAL TRUST
The score comes with the price warning attached.
This page treats the whiskey and the purchase separately: the bourbon is composed and impressive; the shelf price makes the recommendation conditional.
“Well constructed and oak-forward, with praise fastened to a warning about price.”

IV How to Drink It
HOW TO DRINK KNOB CREEK 18
“Knob Creek 18, neat — give it ten minutes.”
Mind the tag before the pour: at retail it runs above its $174.99 SRP more often than below. If you see it near SRP, that's your bottle; if a bar pours it, try before you buy.
NEAT & PATIENT
Pour it neat and wait ten minutes — the oak unknits into brown sugar and tobacco.
DROPS, NOT SPLASHES
Two or three drops of water sweeten the mid-palate; more thins an 18-year frame fast.
NEVER MIX
Eighteen years and $187 have no business anywhere near a cocktail shaker.
THE SERVE
FIG. 02 — THE SERVE
Neat. Ten minutes. No shaker.

THIS REVIEW
Knob Creek 18
Best for deep char, leather, brown sugar and a polished Beam signature.
HEAVEN HILL RIVAL
Elijah Craig 18
Softer proof and more classic Heaven Hill oak; usually less forceful.
PRESTIGE ALTERNATIVE
Michter's 10 Bourbon
Younger but more polished and easier to justify for some drinkers.

WHISKEY SPECIALIST · AI
Is Knob Creek 18 worth $190 when the 12 exists?
The 12 is the value play; the 18 buys six more years of alligator-char depth — tobacco, leather, old oak — at the same 100 proof. If you love oak-forward bourbon and see it near its $175 SRP, yes. If you're price-first, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof at $70 is the smarter thrill.

VERDICT · KNOB CREEK 18 REVIEW
Old Beam, dignified to the end.
Eighteen years in maximum char should have made a tannin bomb; instead it's composed — caramelized oak, brown sugar, tobacco and leather at a stately 100 proof. It scores below Elijah Craig 18 on value and below Michter's on polish, but as a tribute to Booker Noe and a genuinely old Beam age statement, it earns its place — near SRP.

COMMUNITY PULSE
The split in the room
Fans celebrate the maturity and Booker Noe lineage. Skeptics usually do not attack the liquid; they question whether one bottle should cost the same as several excellent younger bourbons.
WHAT DRINKERS NOTICE
- 01 · Old oak is the feature, not a side effect.
- 02 · Try a bar pour first if price matters.
- 03 · Water helps, but too much thins the frame.

KNOB CREEK 18 · FAQ
Questions, answered.
Six things drinkers most often ask us about Knob Creek 18.
ANSWERED BY EVERETT BOONE · THE AMERICAN SEAT
i. Is Knob Creek 18 worth it?
Near its $174.99 SRP, yes — for oak lovers it's the deepest, oldest Knob Creek ever bottled. At the $200-plus the market often asks, Elijah Craig 18 and Michter's 10 crowd it hard.
ii. Is Knob Creek 18 still being released?
There was no 2025 or 2026 edition — three releases exist (2022, 2023 and 2024's KC003). Beam launched Knob Creek 21 in late 2025, leaving the 18's future unconfirmed.
iii. Knob Creek 18 vs Elijah Craig 18 — which is better?
We score EC18 a point higher (91 vs 90): it's cheaper and more elegant. Knob Creek answers with more proof, more char and a darker profile. Oak maximalists should take the Beam.
iv. Why is Knob Creek 18 only 100 proof?
It's the brand's signature strength — Booker Noe set Knob Creek at 100 proof in 1992. At 18 years, more proof would amplify the tannin; 100 keeps it composed.
v. Isn't 18 years too long for bourbon?
Usually, yes — new charred oak overwhelms most bourbon past 15. The 18's batches are selected from barrels that kept their sweetness; the drying edge is real but controlled.
vi. Should you add water to Knob Creek 18?
A few drops at most. It's already cut to 100 proof, and heavy dilution collapses the old-oak structure into flat tannin.
