ARDBEG UIGEADAIL — STORY & ORIGIN
Named for the dark loch.
Ardbeg has distilled on Islay's south coast since 1815, drawing water from Loch Uigeadail, high in the peat hills — the dark, brooding lake this bottling is named after. Saved from near-closure by Glenmorangie in 1997, it now sits in LVMH's whisky stable.
Introduced in 2003, Uigeadail marries heavily peated spirit from ex-bourbon casks with whisky matured in Oloroso sherry butts, bottled non-chill filtered at 54.2%. Jim Murray's Whisky Bible crowned it World Whisky of the Year in 2009.
Where Ardbeg 10 is citrus and smoke at full clarity, Uigeadail pours the same spirit through a sherry cask — tar and espresso wrapped in raisin. It's the bottle peat veterans keep coming back to.
