Ten years, for a rye, is a statement.
Michter's traces its lineage to America's earliest whiskey-making and revived the name in the 1990s, building a reputation on obsessive maturation and quality-over-volume restraint. Under president Joseph Magliocco, master distiller Dan McKee and master of maturation Andrea Wilson, it has been named Drinks International's “Most Admired Whiskey” two years running.
The 10 Year Rye is the flagship bourbon's spicier twin — an age-stated Kentucky straight rye, every bottle drawn from a single hand-picked barrel and bottled at a restrained 92.8 proof. It returns roughly once a year; the 2026 release arrived in June, and between releases the shelves simply go bare.
A decade is ancient for American rye — most of the category is bottled at four to six years. Michter's holds its rye until the grain's sharp edges have folded into honey, citrus and old oak, which is why release day is tracked like a ticket drop.
