HAKUSHU 12 — STORY & ORIGIN
Born in a forest at the foot of the Southern Alps.
In 1973, fifty years after Yamazaki, Suntory built its second malt distillery deep in a forest in Yamanashi Prefecture, at the foot of Mt. Kaikomagatake — chasing a different water, a different climate, a different whisky.
The site sits high in the Southern Japanese Alps, ringed by pine and granite. Snowmelt filtered through ancient rock gives Hakushu one of the softest waters in whisky, and the cool mountain air shapes a spirit that is crisp, green and gently smoky rather than rich or heavy.
Hakushu 12 became the fresh face of Japanese single malt — the forest dram that made the whisky highball an art form.
