Scotland's sweet spot
Speyside packs more than half of Scotland's distilleries into a small stretch around the River Spey. The regional signature is elegance and fruit: apple, pear and honey in the lighter houses, dried fruit and Christmas-cake richness in the sherried ones. Smoke is the exception, not the rule.
It's the most beginner-friendly corner of Scotch — Glenfiddich and Glenlivet made the region famous, while Macallan, Aberlour and Glenfarclas show how far sherry-cask maturation can go. If Islay is Scotland's campfire, Speyside is its fruit bowl.
